Experience |
8/88-current I am the Business Systems Architect and Computer Operations Supervisor at The Oregonian newspaper. I support a Unisys 2200 series mainframe, several Windows servers, and some VBA applications. I install and maintain software, troubleshoot problems, answer technical questions from the programmers and operations staff, and even do some application development. Since January, 2009, I have been supervising a staff of 5 computer operators. I have managed several projects, including a 3 year Y2K project in which I supervised a team of 6 programmers and several end-users.

11/80-8/88 Systems Programming Consultant Sperry Univac/Unisys Minneapolis, Mn. I was a traveling consultant assigned to customer sites to help with systems programming, installation, performance analysis, and troubleshooting. My assignments were typically 1-2 years in length. I worked in the Operating System development group for two years in Minnesota. My original employer was Sperry Univac. In 1986 the company merged with Burroughs to form Unisys.

6/79-11/80 Systems Programmer Boeing Computer Services U.S. Departmentment of Energy Richland, Wa. I was responsible for installing and maintaining system software on a Sperry Univac mainframe.

5/77-6/79 Programmer/Analyst United Air Lines Maintenance Operations Center San Francisco, Ca. I was part of a massive development team for an aircraft maintenance/inventory management/automatic parts ordering application. The work was on a Sperry Univac mainframe using COBOL and MASM.

5/76-5/77 Systems Analyst State of Washington Department of Licensing Olympia, Wa. I was responsible for the Motor Vehicle Licensing System. I managed the conversion project and wrote the specifications to convert the application to a Sperry Univac mainframe using COBOL from an RCA Spectra 70 using assembler. I supervised a team of 6 programmers on the project.

7/75-5/76 Applications Programmer Safeco Insurance Co. Seattle, Wa. Programming work was done on an IBM 360 using COBOL, JCL, and TSO for life insurance applications.
